Adjusting Control Valve – Nelson 700 Series Automatic Waterers

The control valve is essential to the refueling process and is located directly under the pivot beam and is activated by the control valve adjustment screw. When an animal drinks and a pivot beam pivots, the control valve adjustment screw comes down on the valve stem and opens the valve.

Water refills the drinking bowl until the bowl becomes heavy enough with water and pivots of the valve closing the control valve. The control valve must be adjusted when initially installing the waterer and after the valve has been removed or replace for maintenance.

To adjust the control valve the cover and drinking bowl must be removed. Then open the brass shut off valve. Next using a corner screwdriver, turn the control valve adjustment screw until a very small stream flows from the water spout to you and breaks up into drops about three inches below the tube outlet.

Then turn the control valve adjustment screw a quarter turn counterclockwise. This will cost water to stop flowing and now the adjustment is complete.
